sacred hearth retreat
Devon, UK | 6-8 June 2025
Join us!
Rima Staines and Yelala are co-hosting a unique retreat on Dartmoor.
We will find meeting place of artistic and spiritual practices, and exploring how we can make space for them amidst the noise of every day life.
We will be taking inspiration from those who tended the hearth, and honouring the artistry with which they carried home-making traditions that our dominant culture might now call witchcraft and superstition.
Rima and Yelala's Kohenet Rachel have spent two years teaching online about the power and relevance of Amulets in modern life, and now we will be gathering in person for the first time.We welcome participants of all faiths and none and of all genders and sexualities.
At registration we ask only for your payment for Karuna's accommodation / food.
After the retreat there will be a sliding scale option of payments to make to support your facilitators (that's us!). Please see the FAQs below for this scale.
Onsite participant registration fee: £190
Offsite participant registration fee: £120
Bookings are now open, FAQs are below.

Who We Are
Rima Staines is an artist making painted talismanic doorways which open upon those Old Realms we half remember traversing in childhood and in dreams. Her work is a kind of Iconography of the Otherworld: rooted in the black earth and green ink of Story and refracting a rusted-amber light from a different and wholly Other sun. Rima is fascinated by how iconography moves us, how art can be amuletic and possess spirit. There is a thread there that she continues to follow in her work: that of magic and alchemy, not as whimsical fancy but as a real and old device for effecting change in the worlds and inside us.
Rachel Rose Reid is a storyteller, ritualist, and Kohenet, whose work is bound together by her love of shaking the dust from old narratives and lost histories, so that we can find new connection and understanding in the present.
She is the co-founder of Yelala which revives knowledge of the leadership and spirtual and folk customs of women and other marginalised folk in Jewish community. She has led devotional chant and workshops for people of all faiths and none at Greenbelt, Buddhafield and Medicine Festivals, and taught OneSpirit Interfaith Ministry students, and has a growing practice in designing and leading mixed faith and unconventionally-Jewish marriage and commitment ceremonies.
